Seniors are often secluded from the regular social interaction that stimulates new thoughts and actions. Laughing and making positive statements about themselves creates a healing atmosphere and enhances their happiness quotient. This causes them to feel good about themselves and increases optimism.
As we age, blood vessels harden and so does our funny bone. Gentle laughing exercises soften the funny bone, relax the arteries and oxygenate the whole system, while creating pleasant emotions and lowering stress.
We use fun, songs and games that have only winners to lift spirits and stimulate endorphin production and this often relieves pain and stiffness in the body. Our gentle fun breathing exercises empty the lungs and so clear the blood of toxins as they breathe deeper and deeper.
Playing in a child-like way with their peers, increases bonding and friendship. Seniors often laugh as much about the session when discussing it afterwards, as they do during the session, so benefitting twofold from the immune building and stress relieving chemicals released into the blood stream. Cheering themselves as healthy happy people, produces a subconcious belief that is transposed into helping ease many physical and emotional problems.
Happiness is dependent on circumstances many seniors cannot control. The abilty to laugh freely creates joy any time the exercises are performed, so bringing a pleasant easy tool for self care, to the lips of our most cherished citizens. Regular Laughter Yoga sessions can only enhance the wellbeing and welfare of all who participate.
